UEFA has opened a disciplinary case against Chelsea winger Pedro Neto after he pushed over a ball boy during a Champions League loss by PSG.
The Portugal international, Neto, knocked the boy during added time of Wednesday's last-16 fixture in Paris – a match in which Chelsea lost 5-2 – an action that led to the boy to fall off a stool.
This provoked a heated exchange between the opposing squads.
Officials stated proceedings have been instigated against the player for "conduct contrary to sporting spirit" in accordance with the official rules.
"Uefa's disciplinary bodies will make a ruling on this case in the coming days," UEFA added in its statement.
Neto apologised for the incident attributing it to being caught up "in the intensity of the match" when he sought to quickly retrieve the match ball.
"That is not who I am. It was in the heat of the moment and I sincerely apologise. My shirt was given to him. I'm really sorry about it - I feel I have to apologise to him," Neto explained to the media.
"My French is not very good, and [Portugal team-mate] Vitinha stepped in and told him that this isn't my normal behaviour.
"At the end he [the ball boy] laughed and I presented him with my jersey apologising many times. He understood what had happened and was satisfied with the outcome."
Chelsea face PSG in the upcoming second leg for the return fixture, following Newcastle's visit to Stamford Bridge this weekend in the Premier League.
